When it comes to deciding between wood vs. aluminum wheelchair ramps it’s always most practical and very wise to go with the aluminum wheelchair ramps.

The aluminum wheelchair ramps are the most versatile of all types of wheelchair ramps. Constructed of welded aluminum, they are lighter, stronger and more durable than those made of wood. Many of the aluminum ramps can be configured differently when the application changes. Installation of these ramps is fast and they are maintenance free. Wheelchair ramps made of wood have to be maintained yearly at an additional cost. They require materials to buy and transport home and days to build the ramp once you find someone to do it following the ADA guidelines. Wood ramps will require footings and often a building permit. They are stationary and cannot be moved. If you move they cannot be taken with you without added expense and frustration.

Aluminum ramps will hold up to any type of weather without becoming slippery and slimy. Portable ramps fold in half or thirds and come with a carrying handle for ease in moving.

They come in 6’-10’ ft lengths, weighing up to 69 lbs. for the two longest pieces.

The Extended Reach Ramp offers the same convenience as the Multi-Fold Ramps, but has an extended lip to help bridge the gap over large vehicle bumpers. It measures 29.5” wide and can be added to either the single-fold or the multi-fold aluminum wheelchair ramps.

Threshold ramps are used as a simple solution to smooth uneven door thresholds. These ramps are available from 1″ to 6″ heights, ramps feature a 600 pound capacity.
