Obstructive Sleep Apnea
  • Steven March 2011
Obstructive Sleep Apnea, (OSA), is a disease to be taken seriously. Lately I've found myself having to remind doctors and referral sources that OSA is a dangerous condition. It's not dramatic like an automobile accident so many folks neglect to take it as serious as they should.

So let's switch perspectives: A classic symptom of OSA is daytime sleepiness. If a driver has untreated OSA and falls asleep at the wheel, the untreated OSA can actually be considered what causes a serious or fatal accident. Very dramatic. Very serious.

In fact, OSA is so serious, the Department of Transportation requires truck drivers to be tested and treated for OSA to retain their CDL license, (please see www.aeroflowindustrialclinics.com). Drivers with untreated OSA are 2-7 times more likely to be involved in a serious automobile accident. Driving sleepy has been compared to driving under the influence.

Additionally, OSA exacerbates a whole host of additional disease states including heart disease and diabetes.

Take OSA seriously. Address any OSA symptom see with your provider, (please see http://www.aeroflowinc.com/patients/sleep_apnea/symptoms.cfm). Feel free to contact an Aeroflow representative for information on getting screened/tested by your healthcare provider.
